Meet our team
Dr. Brent Zanke, co-founder
Brent is a graduate of the Universities of Manitoba (MD, 1983) and Toronto (PhD, 1993) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. He is a PhD geneticist and is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Michigan.
His curiosity about the randomness of human disease led to significant research contributions in the field of genetic epidemiology. Brent’s body of work includes more than a hundred published articles in leading medical publications.
Brent’s interest in age-related macular degeneration was triggered by personal experience and an appreciation that the present model of therapy development and regulation doesn’t easily accommodate individual differences of response.
He co-founded Arctic Medical Laboratories to provide personalized genetic predictors of disease at a reasonable cost to health care professionals and patients.
Greg Hines, co-founder
Greg’s extensive leadership experience is in research-based pharmaceuticals and in molecular diagnostics.
Prior to joining Arctic, Greg was president, CEO and director of Tm Bioscience (publicly traded on the TSX). He led the design, development, and commercialization of a molecular diagnostic platform complete with a menu of molecular tests in the fields of human genetics, pharmacogenetics and infectious disease. He sold this FDA compliant business to Luminex (LMNX: NASDAQ). Greg also founded and served as president of Leo Pharma Inc., a research-based pharmaceutical company.
He served on the board of directors of Rx&D, the association of Canada’s research-based pharmaceutical manufacturers from 1993 to 1999 and was Chairman in 1997/98.
Greg’s interest in AMD stems from a family history of the disease and the challenges his family has had in managing good care both in the doctor’s office and at home. Working at the forefront of personalized medicine in AMD is a passion he holds close at heart.
Gerry Belgraver
